In the structural optimization to reduce vibration, the exciting force should be measured or estimated.
However, the exciting force may be changed by the change of stiffness due to structural modification.
Thus, a novel quantity, virtual exciting source which is composed of pure exciting force which is not affected by structural
modification and connecting vibration system is proposed and estimated by using the measured acceleration respose while adding small mass.
Fr an example, the virtual exciting force of a cantilever plate excited by a shaker is estimated. The estimated acceleration response of a
cantilever plate modified by adding a rainforced rib agrees well the measured one.
